The Shag!

Have you ever thought about getting a Shag cut? I love love love this cut! It's sexy! It has movement! And, it works on all lengths of hair short or long and all face types. Contrary to what most people think, layers are actually good! Layers give movement to the hair, they add volume and they add softness. The release the weight. The key to making this cut great is good layering. It makes all the difference. What I've been doing lately is adding a little shagginess to a lot of my cuts. My clients love it! Kick it up! Spring is that time of year that people are looking for change. Usually this time of year I make my blondes a little blonder, my brunettes with highlights a little lighter and my reds a little more titian (lighter/coppery). Highlights do what the word means, they highlight your face, how could you go wrong? A little layers, a little highlights...are you ready for the summer! Shag it out! Lighten it up!

Dianna's Mussy is a great example of a modern shag hairstyle. Copy this look with texturizing spray and scrunching your hair a little. Put in some mousse and  let hair air dry. Or blow dry until hair is 80 percent dry, then scrunch and let it air dry the rest of the way.

I absolutely love these rocker girl hairstyles that work so beautifully long thick hair. Note the super heavy bang and the air-dried hair. Bangs are back!

The shag hairstyle is very rock'n roll -- casual, mussy and visually effortless. Think "bedhead." The typical features that make up a shag hairstyle include choppy ends, loads of layers around the crown and lots of texture.
The shag works on almost every hair texture and in every hair length. You have to be careful though because a hairstyle with too many layers can appear dated.

Shag hairstyles are basically bobs, long bobs, long hairstyles and even pixies, but with choppy ends and lots of layers. Here is a great example of a long bob "shagified."

This shag hairstyle is great because it's both shaggy and short, making it an interesting look that won't be seen on everyone.
