Award Season-Marine Ball Inspiration: Babylights or Balayage?

Award season is now and that means red carpet fashion! I don't know about you but it's one of my favorite things to watch!..... sometimes even better than the awards themselves! Hair, makeup, gowns! So inspiring and gorgeous that it makes you want to get-that-look! You don't have to dream about it. You can actually have it. Look at the people you like most and take that look to your stylist/hairdresser. If they're anything like me they'll find a way to make it work for you.

With the right stylist and the right color your can get pretty close!

Carrie Underwood has a textured bob that's angled to frame her face giving her cut more interest and softness at the ends. If you love her blonde you'll need to get a TON of babylights (very fine highlights) alternating 2 shades of blondes or even a light brown with platinum blonde to create a honey wheat color. This technique also cuts are orange tones out for those of us who pull red.

I recently did this on one of my clients, she didn't even get down the street before getting stopped and asked if her color was actually hers! Funny because an hour before she was a dirty blonde!

Nicole Kidman is now a platinum blonde which is totally hot right now. If you've been highlighting for a long time and want to kick it up a notch go for the platinum. You don't necessarily need to be this fair skinned to go platinum. Believe it or not this color can look great on a lot of different skin tones as long as you choose the right shade of platinum for your skin tone. Remember there's a shade for you whether it's ash, gold, neutral or violet.

Olivia Culpo's look totally evokes the Frida Kahlo look. To achieve this make two braids and criss cross them in the back tucking in the ends. If you don't have long enough hair, no worries! Clip extensions are a really easy way to get this look and totally easy too! Big chunky earring and dramatic make up finish off this look.

Prianka Chopra has a very soft balayage ombre which I totally love! This color not only softens the black color in her hair but it also compliments her skin tone. Balayage is something a lot of clients ask for as it's good for those who don't go to the salon every 6 weeks. Since the color start farther down and not at the root the grow out is less noticeable. The key to making balayage look really good is knowing where to start painting the balayage. Fade it into your hair so you don't get that hair dipped in dye look. Looks great on most lengths and hair textures. Easy to maintain.
