Spring Hair: Fresh Cuts & A Touch of Color

Spring is on its way! One of my favorite times of year for hair. Every year at this time people come for a little hair renovation. Of course it's that time--it's in the air! This month I'm focusing on fresh haircuts. From trims to major cuts that give volume to your hair and shape to your face. A little more volume, a little sexier. To achieve this my most important ingredient is a touch of love to every cut and color I do. Life isn't perfect but your hair should be!

Heidi came to me with beautifully long, thick hair. The only problem was that it was a bit on the mousy side. We gave her a million highlights to make her look like a natural blonde. We ended up going with two shades of blonde that not only complement one another but also complement her natural color. Heidi was blonde as a child and over time turned brown which just wasn't doing anything special for her. In my opinion most, people who were blonde as children look better blonde as adults too. The end result was beautiful! And since Heidi loves her long hair we just trimmed away the dry ends and gave her some shape. A perfect balance of color and cut!
Julia came to me with little bitty baby highlights that were just there. Not really doing anything for her hair or her complexion. She wanted to be freshened up. She wanted to look more contemporary. We decided to do a combination of heavy ombre and balayage. I am usually known for taking baby steps with my clients when it comes to change but this time we realized that baby steps were not the way to go. Since Julia has beautiful fair skin, two shades of blonde were definitely what she needed. She too was blonde as a child, started going dark as a teen and ended up brown as a young adult. She never dreamed she would look good as a blonde again. But color choice and technique were imperative in executing her new look. As for Julia's cut, we trimmed away the ends and gave her some angling around the face to open up her face. We blew it out using a large barrel ceramic brush and VOILA! A new Julia! I told her she'd never go back to brown again and she whole heartedly agreed!

Natalie is a high fashion international model. She has to change her hair A LOT for different photo shoots. This can be tricky for me since my goal is always to, of course do amazing color, but also to always leave my clients hair in the best condition possible. On Natalie's hair we usually end up using gloss with color when she needs to go darker. It enriches her color and leaves her hair in the best condition. But this time she needed to go lighter and as spring is around the corner we went with a balayage technique making her hair look like she had been at the beach. We added in balayage highlights using what I call a “honey wheat blonde”. Even though her natural color is dark she looks beautiful with both dark brown and blonde hair. In this case knowing which color tone looks good on each person’s skin tone is key. You don't always have to stick to the same color if you go with the right tones.

Spring's just around the corner! What's your hair vibe?
